Goal Setting:
Setting your goals will help manifest your success. You must know where you're going in order to know how to get there. Below are some things to think about.
What are your goals? What is it that you really want? This may sound like a simple question but is it really? When I first sat down to write my goals, I thought to myself, "this will be easy", but it wasn't! Don't think of goals as money or happiness, that's too broad. Think of goals in specifics.
Think of detailed goals, such as "to make $10,000 more this year than last year" as opposed to "to make lots more money this year". See the difference? Goals need to be specifically determined in order to decide the direction to take.
What direction do you take if you don't know exactly where you're going?
Let's use taking a cab as an example: If you said to a cab driver, "Take me somewhere." He would ask, "Where?" You would be forced to narrow down your location. Replying, "Somewhere downtown," still wouldn't be good enough because he would need to know exactly what street.
Without realizing it, so many people do the same thing with their lives! It's amazing but true. Some live each day as it comes and hardly give tomorrow (their goals) a second thought. In some instances this is okay, but not when planning for the future! Today, once gone, cannot be brought back, so take the time to sit down and plan. Starting with your goals!
Needs vs. Wants:-
Goals can be things you need or want. It's best to start with primary goals; your needs. Such as the means to pay your rent, bills, insurance, car repairs etc. Sometimes 'wants' will sneak in on the 'needs' list so pay close attention that you only list your 'needs' first.
This will give you a baseline to work with. Once you know the bare minimum needs, you will know what you must accomplish before you do anything else. It's at this point that you build. Next list the things you want. You may find the things you want aren't always material things. I found myself listing things like 'to be more assertive' or 'to use my time more wisely' along with the new car or big house. These self betterments aren't things that money can buy, but they are goals. And with every accomplished goal your self esteem will rise to give you the strength to keep going.
If you've ever watched interviews with famous people, many of them rock stars, you see many who have accomplished their material goals but not their personal, self betterment goals. They hit it big, had their mansions, cars, friends, and anything else they could want. But the story almost always ends the same, they either hit rock bottom, used drugs or died young from unhealthy living.
Once the majority of these rock stars (the ones that survived) "grew up" their story is usually now a happy one. They have had the time to think and have found their mental peace. Even though they skyrocketed to fame and fortune which were their material goals, they still weren't happy. It was the mental peace and personal growth that made life bearable. The same is true for your own accomplishments. Don't forget to list goals that will make you grow as a person.
Mental preparation is so important.
Now that you have your 'needs' and 'wants' list make sure you listed as many things as you could think of for each. Compare them and see what you think. Believe it or not, you just did what most all successful people have done before they climbed the ladder of success. True success both mentally and financially is through a series of experiences. Financial success is best built, not 'hit big all at once'.
Many new online marketers are under the impression they will hit the net hard and become tremendously wealthy overnight. Fortunately this is not true. There is nothing more satisfying than to work hard and see your accomplishments steadily grow into your dreams. So be prepared to climb and enjoy the experience!
